A blogging decision

For a while, sometime in the distant past, I updated this blog quite frequently. And then it slowed down, and then I got into Facebook. It seemed appropriate to me, then, to make some sort of decision about blogging. Should I just put all the pictures on Facebook and blog even less than I already do?

So I've done some thinking. There are two reasons why I started this blog: First, I wanted a way for family and friends to be a part of our lives when they couldn't do it any other way. None of our family live near us, and we've got lots of dear friends scattered about the country since we've moved so often. I wanted this blog to be like a much more regular Christmas letter for them. Second, I wanted our immediate family to have a kind of history, a real time story for the kids (and us forgetful parents!) to look back on from afar.

Facebook is great for catching up with old friends and for keeping up with friends I can't see very often. But it isn't a great medium for telling stories. Plus, lots of our family and friends aren't on Facebook.

And so I've decided to put more energy into the blog. Expect more regular updates, with pictures and stories about the Jacobs family.

And allow me to say one more thing: We welcome comments on the blog—in fact, we'd love to have them. It may seem like a small thing, but it is one way we can stay in touch with you, and it's one way for you to be present to and with us. So please feel free to comment, whether it's just to say hi, to add a thought, or even to add your part of the story. In this way, you'll help us make it complete.

Meaghan & Jon
Well, I know that Jane and I (and the kids) all enjoy seeing the photos and articles; the good news is that we can comment directly to Meaghan when we chat on the phone! But we do wish we lived closer...!

Hi! It's really nice that you do this for your long distance family and friends. The locals like the kid pics and updates too.
