Gregory Turns Five

A few weeks shy of his fifth birthday, Gregory started to refer to his childhood in the past tense. He now frequently starts sentences with, "When I was a kid, I used to...". Needless to say, he was pretty excited about turning five years old. He woke up on February 8th to discover that his bones and his brain did in fact get bigger, or at least that is what he told me.

He and I meticulously planned out his birthday party. He chose a race car theme with race car decorations; pizza, Sprite and Sun Chips for lunch; and a race car cake for dessert. He also specified that we buy race cars, bubbles, and play doh for gift bags. He enthusiastically invited his whole class to the race car pizza party with our personally designed invitations. Only one child from his class showed up. I was more upset than he was. When we realized his class wasn't responding to the invites, we asked some of his other friends to come. So on the day of his party, he still had people come over and he didn't seem to mind. (I had anticipated a low turn out because his class is from all over the city and by and large, parents have never met each other.) So the race car pizza party was a success.

For his birthday, we bought him a Lego race car. He and I followed the directions step by step, me showing him what to do and him doing the step. I was very proud of him! Jon was at work when he built his race car so we took pictures of it to email Jon.
