Happy Birthday, Emmie Jane!

Emmie turned three this year. (I'm not sure I believe it yet.) She got a few presents, and we gave Gregory one, too. We've found it helps smooth things over quite a bit if the non-birthday kids get one present:

Stephen seemed to want one, too, but then it turned out he just wanted to play with the packaging.

As another present, I took Emmie to her first movie in a theatre, Astro Boy. She insisted on wearing her new Dora backpack. (Notice, also, Gregory's Astro Boy action figure.)

The movie, I gotta say, wasn't that great, and wasn't especially well suited for kids. Emmie sat on my lap during the scary parts. There's just nothing like a good Pixar film, these days.

After the movie and baths, it was time for her birthday cake. She asked for a pony cake, and we didn't really want to spend money on a cake that wouldn't even taste very good, so we used our imagination:

Ok, we need to work on our imagination, but it worked for her!

Then there were a few more presents, which Gregory was particularly interested in helping open:

Three years old. Wow. Before we know we, she'll be out of her terrible twos!
