With Easter coming up, Meaghan and I have begun to realize how hard it is to talk with little kids about our faith. To gauge how we're doing, we decided to ask them what they do at church. Here's Meaghan's conversation with Emmie Jane:
"Emmie, what do you do at church?"
"Father"
"What does Fr. Steven do?"
"He prays."
"What does he pray for?"
"Um, I don't know."
"Who does he pray for?"
"God! Um, I mean Jesus. What does Jesus do at church?"
"Emmie what do you do at church?"
"Pray. What does Jesus do with his church?"
A very good question. And here's my conversation with Gregory:
"Gregory, what do we do at church?"
"Um, eat cookies!"
"What else do we do at church?"
"Um, I don't know."
"Yes you do. What do we do?"
"We pray."
It's a start.
