A weekend for the boys

Gregory and I spent the weekend together while Meaghan got some time to spend with a couple of friends from Bloomington. It was a challenging weekend, but I have to say, I loved it. And while Gregory got sick (more on that in a moment), I think he liked it too:

Here's the play-by-play.

Meaghan left Friday, so after picking Gregory up from daycare, we went to the park. He loves to go down the big kid slides. He sort of takes a running start and just dives down them. It's fun to watch. (Someday I'll get around to posting a video of him going down the slides.) He went to bed fairly easy for me and slept the whole night until 8:00am. A great start to the weekend. So I thought I'd burn some time by going to Denny's for breakfast with him. That's coming to be a bit of a tradition already with us. After breakfast, I looked at the clock. 9:20am. For some reason I thought we would have burned a lot more time than that. Oh, and I learned that you should look at the weather before getting your kid dressed. He was wearing shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt for our cold, rainy morning. Oops.

So I took him home to change him and went to the Wonder Lab, the local childrens science museum. After that and a short nap (while I did some more house work), it was over to Pat and Angela's place for a surprise birthday party for Angela. There were six children in their house (if I remember correctly). That was actually nice because it meant Gregory could play with the other kids some and I could catch a little bit of a break. Plus Pat grilled shrimp! I don't get to eat them much since Meaghan doesn't like them.

At this point I realized I didn't have any food for Gregory to eat and didn't really feel like preparing too much, so he ate snack food all night long. When we got home I gave him a bath and then realized that he didn't have any clean pj's. Oops again. I needed to do laundry (which I didn't get to until tonight).

Here's where it gets really fun. Gregory woke up crying at 2am. I tried to comfort him but not much was working. I took him into my bed until 4am and listened to his stomach gurgle. Since he didn't sleep well, I thought he'd sleep in. Wrong. He woke up at 7am with a big messy diaper. At that point I realized I didn't take a shower before he got up, so we had to have bath time together. We need a bigger tub!

We made it to church about 15 minutes late. He stayed for about 15 minutes of service and then we went to the nursery, where he played the rest of the time. I explained to a seven year old girl in the nursery why Meaghan wasn't at church, and she replied with this quip: "Do you know what your weekend is? Babysitting! Do you know what her weekend is? Fun!"

During the coffee hour, Gregory proceeded to throw up all over both of us. Fun. So all afternoon I spent giving Gregory Pedialyte and changing diapers. Luckily, there were a couple of moments where he was feeling well enough to play, and we enjoyed our time together:

All in all, it was a pretty good weekend for the boys.
