Oxford

Brian Leftow, who's a Professor at Oriel College at Oxford, took us around a bit this morning. First we went to Christ Church College. Here's a picture of the beautiful chapel:

Apparently this hall at Christ Church shows up prominently in one of the Harry Potter movies:

Here's a picture of Merton College chapel from the outside:

And from the inside, here's a picture of stained glass from the 13th century:

The original library of the university, which has a door labed (in Latin, I believe) the school of metaphysics (at the bottom left of this picture):

Finally, we went up the tower at the Church of Mary, where we could see most of Oxford. In this picture, the tower on the left is the Merton College chapel. To the right of the chapel and above the second green roof is Oriel College, where Tim and I are staying:

And just so there's one picture of me in this post, here's me, with All Souls College behind me:

Great photos, Jon!!! Ingrid said I should post some suggestions for pubs in London since you might be able to go before you leave England... anyway, these are the two pubs that Eric and I found and adored...
Ye Olde Mitre (on Ely Court, a tiny passageway off Hatton Garden, look for the alley between 8 and 9 Hatton Garden, small sign in shape of a mitre)
Blackfriar's (176 Queen Victoria Street)
Have fun, whatever you do! And drink some good English Real Ale for us. ~Daniela
