Bike trailer

So it's been a long time. Seminar, conference, stuff. I've got a lot of catching up to do. In the meanwhile, here's a quick story:

I've been exercising quite a bit lately, and wanted to somehow get the kids involved, at least in part to give Meaghan some much deserved break time. So I thought, what about a bike trailer, so Gregory and Emmie can go with me when I go for a long bike ride? So I checked how much they cost, then checked Craig's list for a cheaper version. Nothing. But there's a place in Forest Park that rents them, so I thought I'd try it out to see while I'm waiting for a cheap one to fall from the sky.

First problem: I couldn't fit my mountain bike into the van. Oh well, they also rent bikes.

And that was the second problem. The bikes they rent are one speeds. And the bike trail around Forest Park has some slight hills here and there.

So I've got two big kids and a trailer behind this one speed bike. The kids loved it, but I was struggling a bit. I got to a fairly large hill and I was hardly moving the bike at all. I could crawl faster than I was going.

But I didn't want to give up—in large part because Gregory was in the back yelling, "Go! Go! Go!" And as if that wasn't enough, he then yelled "Try! Your! Best! Try! Your! Best!" My own personal cheering section. I replied, "I am trying my best, but this is a big hill and you and Emmie are big kids. You're making me tired."

Without missing a beat, Gregory says, "No, YOU'RE making ME tired!"
