Deep Thoughts on Parenting

Meaghan is much better at getting Gregory to stay within the limits she sets than I am. I think boundaries are very important, though, so when it's my turn to take Gregory out, I'm working hard at being firm with him when needed. For example, when Gregory would rather eat a cookie than finish his dinner, I get to his eye level, and with a firm but calm voice say, "Gregory, I know you want to eat a cookie, but you have to finish your McDonald's french fries first." And then, when I give him the cookie, I say, again at his eye level and with a firm but calm voice, "Gregory, if you want any ice cream, you have to eat all of the cookie, not just the chocolate chips." It may sound strict, but I've got to draw the line somewhere.
