A blessed Sunday

Emelia Jane was baptized on Sunday. It was a beautiful ceremony. We are blessed to have a wonderful church and to have colleagues who came to participate in the event.

Emmie cried a bit at first, but probably just because she was a little cold, since she was just wrapped in a towel. Dan and Andrea Bassett are the Godparents. (They are actually the ones who do most of the activity during the baptism.)

After the intial moment of crying, she was eager to take all the experience in. Here's a picture that captures well the inside of our church:

Emmie actually enjoyed the dunking in the baptismal font, which I guess shouldn't be surprising given how much she likes her baths.

(If you look closely at the above picture, you can see in the background on the right a woman holding a little boy. That's Cathy Deavel, a colleague here at Saint Thomas. (She was just recently tenured, so--congrats, Cathy!) On her right is her husband, Dave. And to his right are Matthews and Kristen Grant. Matthews is also a colleague at Saint Thomas, and a fellow metaphysician. Cathy studies ancient Greek philosophy, so she counts a metaphysician, too!)

Here she is being chrismated. (I think it's the equivalent of confirmation in the Catholic church.)

And here's the procession around the font. (She enjoyed playing with Father Jonathan's stole during the procession.)

Here's Emmie's baptism dress and cross. So beautiful!

During her Churching, she is processed around the alter, where she gets a view of Church that she almost certainly will never have again:

Here's Emmie taking communion for the first time.

And finally, here's a great picture of Emmie with her Godparents:
